Supporting “All Types of Breasts” at Breast-a-Ville 2017

Both men and women can get in on the educational fun as part of the Wellness Fair.

The 7th annual Breast-A-Ville and the 24th annual Wellness Fair will be held on October 4 at the ‘Ville.

The Center for Health Education and Promotion is sponsoring the Wellness Fair. The theme for this year’s fair is “Step Right Up to Great Health.” Interactive tables will be set up by both campus and community participants.

The 7th annual Breast-A-Ville event will focus on all types of breasts this year. Both men and women can get in on the educational fun as part of Millersville University’s Wellness Fair. The breast health initiative was started by Drs. Dennis Denenberg and Richard Frerichs, both professor emeritus, to honor the memory of Denenberg’s sister, Diana Denenberg Durand, a 1967 graduate of Millersville, and Frerichs’ wife, Marsha.

Breast-a-Ville is an interactive event to educate students about breast health in a fun way. Dr. Jenny Monn, assistant professor and organizer of Breast-A-Ville, says, “Most people think breast cancer is a disease of older people, but it can impact young people also. Come to Breast-a-Ville to learn about breast health and how you can recognize the signs of breast cancer.”

Breast-a-ville logoStudents can interact and ask questions about breast health with health professionals from local organizations such as Grace Cancer Care, Penn State Hershey Breast Imaging, Aluestia Studios and Help the Fight Now. They will also have the opportunity to handle both female and male breast models to experience cancerous lumps and watch a new 2-minute educational breast health video that was created with help of Millersville’s Breast Help Advisory Board.

At the event, students will also have the opportunity to play popular games such as Bra Pong and Stack Your Rack to collect stamps on a bingo card to win a t-shirt. On-campus organizations Acacia Fraternity, Digital Art Club, Equestrian, Relay for Life and Her Campus will help with the event.

Breast-a-Ville and the Wellness Fair will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the SMC Promenade from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Rain location is Marauder Courts.
