Millersville Ranks in Top 30 for U.S. News & World Report

Millersville University moved up in rankings.

Moving up a notch from last year, Millersville University is ranked 94th among both public and privates in the category of Best Regional Universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report. When you consider public universities only, Millersville ranks 28th.

The rankings will appear in the “Best Colleges 2018” guidebook, which will be in stores on October 10, as well as the 2018 web-exclusive rankings lists found only at usnews.com/colleges.

U.S.News screen“I see this ranking as recognition of our collective efforts at Millersville University to provide high-impact learning experiences focused on attracting and retaining top-notch students,” says Brian Hazlett, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Millersville. “This is a testament to the effort and quality of our faculty, staff, programs and students. We are honored to be recognized.”

“Regional Universities” are defined as those offering a broad scope of undergraduate degrees and some master’s degree programs but few, if any, doctoral programs.  Other Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities in this category were ranked as follows: West Chester-64, Slippery Rock-78 and Shippensburg-101. Bloomsburg came in at 102, Mansfield at 116, Kutztown at 126 and Clarion and Lock Haven at 137. Those ranked 146-187 were listed alphabetically and included California University of Pennsylvania, East Stroudsburg and Edinboro. Indiana University of Pa., which has offered doctoral degrees for many years, is listed in a different category. They were unranked and listed alphabetically among the schools ranked 231-330 of “National Universities.”

The U.S. News ranking system rests on two pillars. The formula uses quantitative and qualitative statistical measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and is based on their researched view of what matters in education.
