Have a Heart

Find out how ‘Ville Gives Life – Wednesday

Members of the Millersville community have an opportunity to demonstrate the ultimate act of kindness: becoming a registered organ donor. On April 12, the Millersville University (MU) chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is hosting ‘Ville Gives Life: Have a Heart from 12-5 p.m. in the Student Memorial Center Atrium. This interactive event is aimed at increasing awareness about the importance of organ donation.

An awareness fair will take place from 12-3 p.m. with informational tables that include games, trivia and prizes for participants. MU PRSSA is partnering with the Gift of Life Donor Program to provide educational materials for members of the campus community.

Students will be able to paint hearts on a large sheet as a visual representation of the campus-wide support surrounding the issue. Participants will sign thank you cards and well wishes cards in support of donor families and recipients still awaiting transplants.

The speaker event begins 3 p.m. as MU student Ashley Duross, along with other special guests and their families, share how organ donation has impacted their lives. Duross, a senior studying speech communication with an option in public relations, donated a kidney to her father in December 2014. She managed to do this all while remaining a full-time student and being actively involved in the MU chapter of PRSSA.

‘Ville Gives Life will be entered into the National Organ Donation Awareness Competition against other PRSSA chapters throughout the country. The Millersville chapter won honorable mention at the 2016 PRSSA National Conference for their campaign last year. Criteria for the competition includes extent of influence, creativity, execution, publicity, research, professionalism and supplementing materials including media kit, social media presence and promotional video.
