Spica, a junior communications major with an entrepreneur minor, was hired at the end of September after going through a vigorous interview process and then began commuting every weekend to begin training in Philadelphia while taking 15 credits. She officially became student CEO on Jan. 3 and will be managing and running the student-run café on campus. She was made aware of the opportunity in her Entrepreneurship class. Since the café is brand new, she played a key role in the hiring and training of the café’s 25-person team. She will receive a semester’s worth of credits as well as a stipend for running the café.

“It’s been amazing. A lot of work, but it is so worth it. Saxbys is committed to making life better for all those we serve, as well as those a part of the team,” says Spica.

Saxbys’ has partnered with Millersville’s Peter H. Slaugh, Jr. Entrepreneurship program to offer a real world experimental learning opportunity where students can earn credits toward their entrepreneurship minor.

Professor Nancy Mata has concentrated on incorporating the partnership into the Entrepreneurship program at Millersville, “I believe this type of partnership is the next step in growing the interdisciplinary entrepreneur curriculum. Millersville students will have unparalleled ownership of the entrepreneurial process of building a business from the ground up. Graduating Millersville students will have the tools to be able to help grow the regional entrepreneurial and business community of Central Pennsylvania.”
