Millersville Joins Challenge to Make Campus Healthier

The White House launched the Healthy Campus Challenge

Healthy Campus3Since its inception, the Affordable Care Act has allowed 20 million more Americans to gain access to health insurance. This includes 6.1 million young adults. Now, the nation’s uninsured rate stands at its lowest level ever. However, there are still many people who are eligible for Marketplace coverage that remain uninsured across the country.

The remaining uninsured are disproportionately young. This is why the Obama administration has taken some new steps to reach young people during this year’s open enrollment period, which runs from November 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017.

Healthy Campus2As part of this year’s open enrollment, the White House launched the Healthy Campus Challenge. The challenge aims to engage college and university campuses across the country in enrollment efforts. The White House plans to work with administrators, students, faculty, staff, alumni, local community leaders and elected officials to reach the uninsured both on campus and in the surrounding community, by sharing practices that have been successful during prior open enrollment periods.

Starting January 1, participating campuses will confirm that they have taken all Challenge actions with their White House point of contact. Once campuses verify that they have completed all actions, they will be deemed a White House Healthy Campus. They will also receive a certificate signed by the President and will be entered into a lottery for a chance to be recognized during Healthy Campus Day at the White House in January.

Millersville is committed to joining this effort. Students are encouraged to enroll before January 31. Visit the link below to find out more information about coverage options available.
