Think You Can Walk A Mile In Her Shoes?

Uniting genders in an effort to end men’s sexualized violence against women.

The annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m. at Millersville University (MU). The starting point will be the Student Memorial Center Promenade with on-site registration available.

This walk encourages men to walk a mile in high-heeled shoes to protest rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Women and children are also invited to participate in the walk.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes was first held at MU in 2009, but has been held in downtown Lancaster by the YWCA for the past couple of years. However, with the help of “It’s On Us” President Ben Flocken, the event will be returning to MU this year.

“This event is important because it shows that there is a problem that we can all fight against. By having this type of event, it shows publicly that we as a community are behind the cause,” says Flocken.

Frank Baird created Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in 2001. What started out as a small group of men daring to totter around a park has grown to become a world-wide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs.
