On April 16, 2016, the Millersville University Biology Department hosted the 47th annual meeting of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania University Biologists (CPUB) organization.  Over 230 biologists, including 160 undergraduate students, from eleven of the fourteen PASSHE Universities attended and presented research in the Argiers Science Complex, part of the College of Science and Technology.

A total of 37 MU biology students and 14 MU biology faculty participated in the full day of research talks, poster presentations, and scientific workshops.  Eighteen MU students presented original research mentored by the MU biology faculty.  Of these presentations, six won awards for excellence including: 1) Hannah Beville (mentored by Dr. Ryan Wagner), 2) Sherrie Moyer (Dr. Ryan Wagner), 3) Victoria Coutts (Dr. Carol Hepfer), 4) Christina Michael (Dr. Brent Horton), 5) Calen Wylie (Dr. John Wallace) and 6) Kayli Thomas and Alex Sandercock with Kelsi Nagy (Dr. Aaron Haines).

The invited keynote speaker was MU alumnus, Dr. Donald Neiffer, V.M.D., Chief Veterinarian of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, Washington D.C.

The meeting was organized by Dr. Ryan Wagner with assistance by Drs. Aaron Haines, Carol Hepfer, and Judith Cebra-Thomas. In addition to the research presentations, several faculty provided workshops on a variety of topics from using NatureAltas.org in the classroom to hormone and genetic sampling.   CPUB is a state-wide organization dedicated to supporting the professional development of undergraduate and graduate biology students and providing them with outstanding experiences in designing, implementing, and communicating biological research.
