This edition of Who Makes Millersville Special features Kathie Giorgio, Banking Center Operations Supervisor.

Q: Where are you originally from?

A: I was born and raised in Riverside, N.J.

Q: Tell us about your family.

A: I come from a family of six kids, five brothers and myself….and no I was not the spoiled little girl. I have two older brothers and three younger brothers. I was either fighting for myself or defending the three younger ones! It’s always been a male dominated world in my family! I am married to the love of my life, Greg. We have a son, Bob, his wife, Lisa and our wonderful grandson, Connor.

Q: How long have you worked at Student Services Inc.?

A: I started working for Student Services, Inc. at the Banking Center in 2004. Our grandson had recently been born and Greg and I moved from Jersey to York to be closer to him, our son and daughter in-law. I started as a part-time employee and currently am the Operations Supervisor of the Banking Center.

Q: What are some of your daily duties at the banking center?

A: The Banking Center serves as the accounting department for Student Services Inc. and Student Lodging Inc. We also maintain all of the financial records for Student Organizations and perform as bookkeepers for them. I am responsible for all the day to day activities within the department, making sure that all business is processed properly and in a timely manner. I have a full time staff of two, as well as a student worker staff that varies between five and six students.

Q: What do you enjoy about the campus the most?

A: The hustle and bustle when all the students are on campus!

Q: What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A:  Initially I wanted to be a teacher, but life got in the way. I am very happy doing what I am doing now!

Q: What services does the banking center offer to Millersville students and faculty/staff?

A: Students and staff can get checks cashed, or change for laundry. Since we are not really a bank, we do not hold a lot of cash on hand, so we have restrictions on the amount of the check to be cashed.  Also, any student organization that receives an allocation from Student Senate must hold an account with the Banking Center. We act as bookkeepers for all student organizations, so a lot of our focus is on that.

Q: What propelled you to be a student Senate advisor?

A: Up until a few semesters ago we never had students work in the Banking Center. We decided to make a few changes within the department which allowed us to hire student workers. I thought that it would be a good idea for the Student Senate Treasurer to work at the window so that he/she could be more involved in the process of allocated monies. I kind of got some prodding from the former treasures to consider advising Senate and when the opportunity arose, I applied.

Q: How do you want students to remember you?

A: I have a sign in my office that says, “I’m not bossy, I’m just helpful!” People who know me get a chuckle out of that because I can surely be opinionated! I would like students to remember me as someone who has helped them understand how to fight for what they believe in and how to maximize their individual potential.

Q: What are your interests outside of work?

A: I adore spending time with my grandson. My favorite spot in the world is the Jersey Shore. My husband and I try to have a date night each week going out to dinner, to the movies or something just so we can spend time together.

Q:  Do you have a favorite quote?

A: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s about learning how to dance in the rain!”

Q: What is something you absolutely need to get through your day?

A: Sunshine…..I am a total summer person! I am always waiting patiently for summer…

Q:  What is your greatest accomplishment?

A: Although I am extremely proud of my son, Bob I’m not sure that I have attained my greatest accomplishment yet!
