On Wednesday, Feb. 12, a campus celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day will feature a lecture by political and social activist Reverend Al Sharpton at 7:30 p.m. in the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center in Millersville. This event is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required. Tickets may be reserved online, at MUTicketsOnline.com, at the Student Memorial Center Ticket Office (Room 103), by calling the Ticket Office at 717-872-3811 or at the Ware Center Box Office (42 N. Prince St., Lancaster). Ticket Offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The Rev. Sharpton is among America’s foremost civil rights leaders who work against economic injustices, political inequity and corporate racism. For decades, he has played a major role in fighting for civil liberty, community empowerment and economic equality.
The lecture is sponsored by Millersville University’s Black Student Union, African American Studies, NAACP Student Chapter, Frederick Douglass Celebration of Black Culture and University Theme Committee.

I am disappointed in Millersville University for allowing a Lecture to take place by Al Sharpton. Is this Lecture going to be one of his thousands that are filled with issue that don’t have anything to do with race but because he opens his mouth, he injects race into the issue and money into his pocket. For example, the Trevon Martin Case – why was race even brought into that case? Lets see him discuss the issue of the Knockout game with black teens targeting white individuals – resulting in four deaths. Instead of making an appearance in a 10 second video clip stating that the game must be stopped, lets hear him make a whole lecture about the issues around the game. He spent months on television defending trevon martin in a case that had nothing to do with race, but when an issue arises like the knockout game, which is 100 percent about race, he posts a 10 second video. Why doesn’t he fix the issues within his own culture and race before he attacks another. Again I am disappointed in Millersville University for allowing a lecture to take place by a man who has made a mockery of his own culture.

The lecture is sponsored by Millersville University’s Black Student Union, African American Studies, NAACP Student Chapter, Frederick Douglass Celebration of Black Culture and the University Theme Committee.
The Rev. Sharpton has been a civil rights leader in America for decades and while the University acknowledges there might be divergent opinions about some of the policy positions he supports, a long-accepted value in higher education is that free inquiry is indispensable to the advancement of knowledge. One of the core guiding principles of Millersville University (embodied in the strategic direction, Cultivating a Community of Diverse People, Thoughts and Perspectives) is that we will continually renew the University as a place where inquiry is encouraged, ideas are expressed openly and the dignity and rights of all individuals are respected and protected. It is within that context that this lecture will occur.
I see the Reverend is still making big money stirring the pot..How has he actually helped any cause???? Other than his cause to fill his pockets…Yet, many feel he is out for their welfare.
