Dr. Sužiedėlis Received International Honorary Doctorate

Recognized by the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Dr. Saulius Sužiedėlis, a retired professor from Millersville, is one of a select number of people to receive an honorary doctorate from Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) in Kaunas, Lithuania. VMU Honorary Doctor is awarded to internationally acclaimed citizens of Lithuania and other countries for their great contributions to the science and culture of Lithuania and VMU. Sužiedėlis, who taught history at Millersville from 1990-2008 and from 2007-2010 served as director of Millersville University’s annual conference on the Holocaust and Genocide, is one of only 80 distinguished people who have been awarded the honorary doctor’s or honorary professor’s degrees since the establishment of VMU in 1922.

Since 1998, Sužiedėlis has been a member of the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania. In 2011, the Ministry of Education and Science awarded Sužiedėlis the prize for international achievements in science and collaboration with Lithuania by members of Lithuanian Diaspora.

Sužiedėlis’ research included the history of Russia, Eastern Europe, Lithuania, the Holocaust and genocide.  He has published five books and is the author of more than 60 scientific articles, papers and reviews.
