Timely Warning

This communication is prepared as part of the Timely Warning requirement of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act of 1990.  This federal law requires a general communication to the campus community of all crimes reported to campus or local police departments that may pose a threat to the campus community.  Such reports shall be provided to students and employees in a manner that is timely and that may aid in the prevention of similar occurrences.

At 8:00 pm this evening, March 3, 2013 the Millersville University Police Department was notified by the Millersville Borough Police Department that an adult female who lives off campus reported that she was the victim of an indecent assault in the area of Ann St. and Mary St. in Millersville Borough. The assault occurred at approximately 2:30 am on March 3rd and was reported later in the morning. The area of Ann St. and Mary St. north of Wellness housing and west of Shenks Ln, and is considered adjacent or contiguous to Millersville’s campus.

The female reported the following to the Borough Police: At approximately 2:30 am this morning, she was walking by herself in the area of Ann St. and Mary St. when she observed three 18 – 22 year old males with dark complexion in the same area, one called to her. The female related that as she turned to walk away, one of the males grabbed her from behind around the chest, and she was pulled toward the ground. She related that her pants were forcefully pulled down and she was touched to her buttocks area by one of the males. At this time, the female struck the male and fled from the alleyway to her apartment, and later contacted the police. The female related that one of the male’s shirt may have been purple and another’s gray and the third was a white shirt.

This incident is under investigation by the Millersville Borough Police Department, Sgt. Detective Jeffery Margevich.  Anyone who may have witnessed any of this activity or suspicious males in this area or has any information regarding the incidents or the identity of the males is urged to contact the Millersville Borough Police Department at 717-872-4657 or Millersville University Police at 717-872-3433. Callers can remain anonymous.

Members of the campus community are urged to take normal personal safety precautions such as walking with a buddy or other known students, walking in well lit and well travelled areas, securing all personal items while walking and reporting all suspicious persons and activity to police. The Millersville University Police Department provides a safety escort from 11pm-7am and can be contacted at 717-872-3433. The University and Borough Police are directly dispatched if students call 911 in an emergency.
