Field Education is the signature pedagogy of social work education (CSWE, 2015). It is where students are socialized to the social work profession by social work practitioners within diverse field settings. The intent of field education is to integrate classroom learning with hands-on experience offered by practice settings. Each of these components contributes to students mastery of the nine social work competencies. Field education is designed to systematically support student learning through educational supervision, coordination, and student performance evaluations. Also, field education may integrate forms of technology to address the growing needs of clients in which we serve as a component of the program.
