Lieutenant General David L. Mann will receive an honorary doctorate degree from Millersville University at the spring undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 10, at 10 a.m., in Biemesderfer Stadium, Chryst Field.

Mann is a distinguished military graduate of Gettysburg College after graduating from Millersville University in 1981. He assumed command of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command and Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense in August 2013. I had the pleasure of meeting General Mann the day before our May 2011 commencement. Gen. Mann surprised several ROTC cadets and their families at the commissioning ceremony that preceded their graduation. The cadets received a commission to second lieutenant in the US Army from a General who had walked in their shoes on our campus.

In subsequent meetings, I’ve observed General Mann to be a man who promotes continuing education to his soldiers. I appreciate Millersville University recognizing a leader who is “one of us”, a Marauder!

Congratulations General Mann and thanks to you and your family for your service!
