GreenCon During Spring Break
Millersville University is becoming well known for its sustainability practices and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Central PA chapter recognized this as they chose Millersville University to host and co-sponsor this year’s GreenCon 2014. This annual conference will be held at the Student Memorial Center (SMC) on March 18, from 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
GreenCon is the area’s premier conference on green building and sustainability. It brings the area’s design, construction, operation and maintenance professionals together to learn about the latest techniques and network while sharing their interest for higher efficiency in the build environment.
“We anticipate tremendous interest in this year’s event because of the location in Lancaster County,” said Jan Russell, GreenCon 2014 event chairman. “General interest in green building and sustainability has been gaining in the area as more people begin to understand the many advantages of green building practices and why buildings matter.”
Millersville will have a booth at the conference and will be showcasing several sustainable projects. In addition, weather permitting, there will be tours of the ‘Ville-age Organic Garden at the rear of Huntingdon House on campus,
Other highlights of the conference and expo are a keynote presentation and educational programming with various speakers. The three tracks of programs are “Sustainability and the Built Environment,” “Energy and the Positive Impacts of Being Green,” and “Making the Case for Green.” There will also be a green expo which will give attendees the opportunity to see products and services, talk to experts and discover new ideas and techniques. There will also be tours of some of the university’s sustainability initiatives.
This conference is open to anyone interested in green building and sustainability. The cost is $25 dollars for students, faculty and staff of Millersville University.
