D2L Training Registration Page

Training is available throughout the summer months.

Inquiries for D2L training during June, and July should be emailed directly to Marie.Firestone@millersville.edu.

The online registration form will be updated mid-summer with August and September workshop opportunities.

D2L Training Form

  • Instructions:

    1.) Fill in your Contact information
    2.) Review Topic Descriptions and identify desired topic.
    3.) Select one Available Date from the dropdown menu for each desired topic. You will need to fill out a unique registration for each date /topic.
    4.) Indicate your topic choice in the comments field.
    5.) Click Submit.

    After your registration has been processed, you will receive an Outlook meeting request to confirm that you have enrolled in a training session. If you need to cancel a session after you have registered, please do so through the meeting request or email communication to Information Technology.

  • Note:
    * Please register at least 24 hours before the desired available date.

    * Registration is first come, first serve. Dates will be removed from the availability list when chosen. Training may be provided to multiple faculty at the same date and time upon request by the faculty.

    * Sessions average 90 minutes and will be held in the ADAMS HOUSE Faculty Lab.

  • Training Session Topic Descriptions:

  • Introduction to D2L

    DESCRIPTION: An overview of the features and functions of D2L; it is highly recommended that all faculty new to D2L attend this session before attending other, more tool specific sessions. Session will highlight D2L resources available to Millersville faculty and verify D2L login and access to attendees practice course.
    ***PLEASE NOTE: This session is a prerequisite workshop for anyone who has not used/logged in to D2L. All other sessions will assume that participants are already familiar with the items covered in the D2L Introduction session and have logged into D2L.

    Adding Content

    DESCRIPTION: The D2L Content tool is the primary area in the learning system for presenting and monitoring student access to course materials. Four ways to create content, Module and Topic Structure, and linking to other tools in D2L will be covered in this session.

    Discussions

    DESCRIPTION: The D2L Discussions tool allows for creation of asynchronous online forums where students can compose text and audio recordings, link out to web sites, embed media and reply to others postings. The Discussions tool can enable student collaboration on group projects, provide private journal space for communication with instructors, contribute and link to course content and/or enable peer reviews. Discussion groups and grading options will also be covered.

    Dropbox Tool and Grademark Integration

    DESCRIPTION: The D2L Dropbox tool allows for electronic submission of student work (in some formats). Training will address features integrated with the Dropbox tool including Grademark plagiarism detection, digital markup of papers, and association of Rubrics for grading.

    Quizzes

    DESCRIPTION: The Quiz tool is designed for creating various online assessments. Training will address advantages of utilizing the Question Library, creating multiple formats of questions, and processes for creating, editing and grading quizzes.

    Respondus

    DESCRIPTION: This 60 minutes session will present Respondus, a software for converting text documents, including test banks, to D2L Quiz questions. Participants will learn how to locate and download a copy of the software made available for free to Millersville faculty.

    Grades

    DESCRIPTION: The D2L Grades tool is used to create and manage an online gradebook for your course. Training addresses the basics of using the tool, including creating slots, categories, using extra credit and releasing grades to students. Multiple communication and feedback possibilities within the gradebook will also be addressed.

    Groups

    DESCRIPTION: This 60 minute session will present the Group tool which is useful for setting up and organizing groups in your course. The use of groups allows the instructor to restrict access to any/all D2L tool on the basis of enrollment in a specified group. This includes access to content, discussions, collaboration spaces and dropbox folders.

    Homepage and Widgets Customizing

    DESCRIPTION: This session explains how to create a custom homepage for your D2L course, including creating custom widgets.

    Checklist, Glossary, Links and FAQ

    DESCRIPTION: This 60 minute session focuses on a group of tools designed to organize information for students.

    Rubrics

    DESCRIPTION: The D2L Rubrics tool can be used to create analytic or holistic rubrics. Rubrics can then be used for grading or layered assessment when associated with other D2L tools.

    Collaborate

    DESCRIPTION: Collaborate is available as a synchronous online room accessible from inside your D2L course. Collaborate is a real-time collaboration tool that allows groups to meet online for lectures, virtual office hours, review sessions, meetings, interviews, and more. It utilizes multi-way audio (VoIP) to send voice through the Internet. Students and instructors need speakers, a microphone and a solid Internet connection to communicate. Session explains features of Collaborate, and options for using within D2L courses.

    Additional Tools

    DESCRIPTION: There are numerous other tools and features within the D2L system. Training will be provided on any tool. Please indicate the tool you would like assistance with in the comments field at the bottom of this page.

  • One date/time may be selected per registration. Dates will be removed from the availability list as they are selected by faculty. Every attempt will be made to accommodate faculty schedules, should multiple faculty register for the same session before the date can be removed.
