Ornithology Trip to Wrightsville

On Saturday, February 21st, A few Ornithology students and myself went on a search for waterfowl along the Susquehanna River at Wrightsville, Pa.  Saw some great species including Common Golden-eyes, Buffleheads, Common Mergansers, Hooded Mergansers, Black Ducks, Mallards, Pied-billed Grebes, Red-necked Grebes, Lesser Scaup and Canvasback.  Also saw a few birds along the shore including Yellow-rumped Warbler, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and White-breasted Nuthatch to name just a few.  Pictures below taken by Melissa Sell and Mike Englar.

The Next Great Bird Illustrator?

One of the assignments for my ornithology class was to have students illustrate their favorite bird species and label all the key morphological features of that bird.  Below is an ‘A+’ quality assignment completed by Kira Klaassen.  Looks like she could develop her own bird field guide.  Great original work Kira.
